Oak Woods
Established in 1853, the first burials in Oak Woods were in 1860.
In this South Side cemetery, at the Confederate Mound, are buried 4000 Confederate soldiers.
An abandoned Jewish section is maintained (but mostly NOT maintained) separately.
When The Cross-eyed Traveler visited Oak Woods in May, 2017, a tree, possibly hit by lightning, was split right down the middle, spread-eagled across the gravestones in the Jewish section - worth visiting!
