Chicago, called the Second City by some, was incorporated as a town in 1833 and as a city in 1837.
The 1871 Chicago Fire burned much of the city to the ground.

Older 1980s photos are displayed here first, in portrait orientation (when enlarged). They are digital copies of Stereo Realist slides, whose colors have changed dramatically since the photographs were taken.
The newer digital photos, taken in 2015 and later, are then displayed in landscape orientation.
