In Athens, you may walk up to the fence of what first appears to be an empty lot, only to discover an excavated
site containing the stone walls of 2500-year-old buildings.

In Greek, Acropolis means "end of the city" or "high point of the city."
Temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon
Completed around 420 B.C., temple is on the Acropolis. Athena Nike means Athena Victory.
Temple Of The Olympian Zeus is in the lower left.
Begun in the 6th century B.C., the temple was completed during the Roman era in the 2nd century A.D.
Corinthian Columns
The middle column was blown down in a storm in 1852.
When building the Acropolis Museum, this site was discovered. According to Greek law, ancient sites must be preserved.

The Ancient Agora was a marketplace, and a place where the philosophers met to discuss the issues of the day.
About 450 B.C. This temple, in the Ancient Agora, is the most complete ancient temple in Greece.
A stoa is a covered walkway. It is often a marketplace. This stoa has been restored.
